I currently have an 80GB Western Digital Hard Drive that is running on SATA Raid... I am trying to install a 160GB Maxtor Hard Drive that I used to have in my Xbox but is now completely erased. Well, what happens is it starts the windows setup, but says I can't access the disk when I want to reformat it... Why? When I hit ENTER for continue, it gives me a windows error code that is STOP: 0x0000008E ..... setupdd.sys - Address F77C3CFD base at F779A000, DateStamp 3d6dd67f ... what is going on?! By the way, this 160gb hard drive used to be in my xbox...

sounds like there's still some kind of xbox software on it and it's trying to boot from it, to me. Might want to see if you can change bios settings to change hte boot order to another drive first.

well i do have another drive boot first but then it freezes on the windows loading screen.. the drive is absolutely clear of information but is formatted with a c,d,e,f,x,y,z from the xbox format...

will completely zero out the drive..

cant find that on their site... its called maxtor factory recertification? is it like a boot disc or something?

or pop in a win98 boot disk or a linux bootable cd and delete the partition table, make a new one and run a format. then put it back in the new setup and you can format it again

just my suggestion

well deleting the partition table and the factory lowlevel stuff are 2 different beasts..

there can still be data from the xbox after a parition wipe.. usually nothing survives the factory stuff

where could i get this type of tool for a western digital drive? or a seagate?

thanks!

search their website.. i know they both have em.. cuz i've used em both

Did you not get a CD or floppy from Maxtor with that drive? They all come with one, you should be able to pop that baby in and zero flash the HDD using the utilities.

will that "ultimate boot disk" allow me to create another partition on my brand new 200 gb hard drive that i currently have windows installed on?

when i installed windows the largest partion it would let me have is about 127gb, i want to get access to the other 70 or so GBs on the disk, so would this let me make a 70gb partition?

system specs are

shuttle xpc SB51G
512mb pc 2100
200gb western digital
radeon 9500 np
windows xp with service pack 1

i bought it from someone on the forums and it came with just teh hard drive with zeros on it... then i put in xbox, now i want to put in pc... do you think i need to set up a raid array?
