Need help installing a drive

hey all...im having a helluva time tryin to get a 300 gig maxtor installed on a compaq 5410...it gets recognized in the bios as a 300 which is good, but when i go to install windows, it only shows it as a 32 gig drive. (the old drive that was in it was a 40, also the old drive isnt hooked up in the system anymore)...so i ran maxblast and setup the partition as a 137 gig parition and left the rest unpartitioned...installed windows, was runnin fine..made a 80 gig and a 75 gig partion to fill the rest of the space using disk management inside windows...go to reboot...cant get back into windows...i noticed as it was booting that it magically lost the maxblast info....so im back to square one...so i ran maxblast again, this time making a 40 gig partion and leaving the rest as raw data, install windows, when it does the first reboot after copying the files i get "a disk read error occured Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart"

wtf can i do to make this work?
 
Update your bios for your motherboard would probably be the first step, most recommended step.

2nd step, if you want to install one large, 300 gig partition, use xp with service pack2 integrated into the install disc.
 
i already updated the bios...and im using a oem with sp2 integrated..


update...ran maxblast again..now windows is installing..we'll see wut happens when i get into windows
 
well i think i finally got it figured out...i did the advnaced install with maxblast, and made all the partitions before i installed windows..appears tryin to make the partitions inside windows screwed it up...so im installin windows now for the 6th time, and hopefully the last time today
