I'm going to be in the market for a new pc in about a month, but I haven't had the time to keep up with latest hardware trends. What's the best AMD motherboard/cpu combo to get right now?(considering price and performance. overclocking is not important.) Are the Athlon-64 cpu/chipsets worth the money?

Thanks for any help.

Kom21? from WFA?

anyway, abit/asus boards are always solid. athlon64 is a good CPU to go with right now. whatever speed you can afford i suppose. I would go with an Abit KV8 personally, just cause i like their boards.

yeah thats me. what up niall. do you happen to know if the athlon64 chipsets work well in linux?

You can get an AK86-L and Athlon 64 3000+ for $304. I think that is a good deal. If you can wait, you might want to wait for nforce 250 mobos and socket 939.

well, Mandrake has an official release just for A64's, and i think pretty much every major distro has a 64-bit release, so i guess: yes.

Will that be released before may by chance?

Nforce 250 will be out before May for sure. Socket 939 is set to be released sometime in May.
