NEED HELP BADLY!!! I'm going nuts

ok well i have tried everything i know of to get my old Pentium 2 on a Shuttle HOT-661 mobo server to accept my 80GB maxtor diamondmax 9 plus hd but to no avail...

the main Primary Master is being accepted and it is a 6.4GB Maxtor

the jumpers are all correct

i updated the bios

and the drive works in other computers...(it was in this P4 machine)

so i dunno....maybe cables? i tried different ones....maybe one thing is that the botherboard doesnt accept cables with the one pin on the connecter filled in...


any help would be great

cable upside down? does the bios detect it or just windows doesnt... try a different cable..

can the powersupply handle it?

try running it without the 6.4gig

got an IDE card?

cable plug has the little tab on the top so in slides into the plug so its right
tried other cables...nothing
the drive spins up fine....
...still need to try running it without the 6.4
i have no IDE card...

You do realize that there is only an ATA33 controller on that motherboard?

Anyhoo.. double check the board version and the BIOS version.. then check this site out http://wims.rainbow-software.org/index.php?count=-1 [have fun with the popups when ya close the window ]
They have tweaked BIOS that allow for up to 128GB drives to be recognized.

Tis amazing what five minutes of googling can yield. How much searching have you actually done on this problem?

<> Search for ' hot-661 drive ' in google and do some research. Some bios only detect up to 30Gb or something.. Tis probably just a backward compatibility problem. Check into getting a cheap PCI ATA card.
