hey, my comp just died out on me.   I was chattin with my friends on AIM, and then my screen went blank. So I restarted it, and then it got to the memory test screen, there it would not go any further. So I then restarted it again, and this time I got no screen at all, and no start up from my comp, it has been doing this ever since then now. Also, my internal speaker connected to my mother board gives no beep, on startup now, usually we get one beep meaning all is well I believe. So this has made me come to a conclusion that there may be 1 of 5 problems. The first thing I can think of is my RAM has been shot, since the first time it got frozen on the mem test screen. Next thing I can think of is that it may be my video card, I dont think this is it but it may be a possibility. Oh ya btw, I know its not just my monitor, I tested it on my moms comp, and it worked fine, I also used her monitor on my comp, same roblem arose. The next problem I can think of is my hard drive might be dead now. I can hear it spinning when the com has ower, but its not doing any work. The next thing I can think of, it may be my mother board, I hoe this isnt the problem, but this is one of the main things I think may be wrong. Finally it may be my processor, I really hope this isnt the problem, but what makes me think it is, is that my comp wont do anything for startup, it wont move anywhere, no mem test, no bios util. Iam hoping that the problem is something that is easilly fixed without buying too much new hardware, Iam pretty short on cash right now, Christmas wiped me out. I can probably afford to spend about maybe $200.00 for new hardware. Unfortunately I cant test the hardware on my moms comp since its a mac. And right now Iam osting this on my sis laptop. If anyone out there knows any solution for me please help. If I need to give any other detail to help fix my poblem just reply, and Ill try to get back asap.

Thanks again for any help...

Do the system fans turn at all, does the power light light up?

No beep code is typically not a good sign.
I suggest trying to format your text for better legibility to encourage responses.

ok, I have power to the motherboard, all my fans work fine, I just dont get any startup screens, nthing is booting up.

all of my hardware listing is in my signature btw...

I encourage you to better format you're text, it's a real pain to read.

Take your whole system apart. Try to boot with just cpu, ram, powersupply motherboard and videocard. Also, make sure the speaker is plugged in so that you can hear if there is a beep etc..

Do you have an old video card? You might need to use that if your video card is the problem. go from there, start adding hardware one peice at a time.

Good luck. :)

That probably excludes the power supply then, and no beeps likely excludes the RAM and processor, though it's difficult to be absolutely certain.

I'd guess the motherboard is at fault given what you've mentioned so far.

Since the KR7 is a VIA KT266A (IIRC) motherboard, the easiest drop-in replacement for it with is going to be another VIA chipset based motherboard, with the KT600 being the latest and greatest.
The Abit KV7 can be had for around $70 on newegg.

ok, thanks guys, sorry about my text format, just been kinda anoyed with the whole problem. I got my good com tech friend to help me out, he knows a lot more about this than I do. So hopefully he can get it fixed, if not, it looks like Iam gonna be upgrading some parts. hehe
