Need Hardcano assistance

I just recently aquired a damier v5000+ that includes a hardcano 9 but I cannot get it to work.To test it i hooked up my 92mm tornado to it. The hardcano displays the rpm but i cannot adjust it. I cant think of how i could have hooked it up wrong as there are cables labeled fan1,fan2, etc... for detect and fan1, fan2 etc... for control. I assumed i could control the rpm of any fan i hooked up to it, am i wrong?
