need eyefinity advice (not yet a user)

ok im confused on how Eyefinity Works. My setup is in my Sig but im Confused on how this Works

Can a single ati 5850 do eyefinity or do you need multiple cards?


i will be using for now a single NEC 23" IPS EA231WMi but am planning on buying the last 2 at tax time.
 
A single card will work fine, additional GPU's will only aid matters, but that really depends on what you'll be doing / playing with it.

My experience is only a few days old so far. For 2D applications it is incredible because of the seamless added real estate. Photo and Video editing is a dream compared to my old setup. The games that it works in (so far) are easily a completely new experience with flying and driving games offering huge dividends especially. I am primarily a shooter fan. The added FOV Eyefinity affords me has already proved invaluable. I don't know how I played without it to be frank.

That said, this early in the tech there can be plenty of tinkering required in order to get it to work with all games. This will only improve (we can assume) as drivers mature, but be prepared for the headaches of being an early adopter if you buy. This is a great community when it comes to help, so I don't see that as a deal breaker.
 
im going to be gaming only. i dont use my gaming systems to browse the web, movies or downloading anything. i use my laptop for that stuff.

was just wondering if a single 5850 running 3 monitors for gaming only is going tonot run that well. i do plan on adding a second 5850 at tax time.
