I've been using a Viewsonic VP201b for about 6 years as my main display. It's time for me to move up to using a widescreen, now that I've adjusted (have been using one at work).

The great thing about the VP201b for its time was that it was (surprise) an S-IPS display. So the colors are damn accurate, and there are no problems with viewing angles, and the uniformity is perfect. I can't have anything less than that for my main display. The only thing I've ever complained about was the black level, the lag, and the contrast, which sucks big time on this monitor. Also, it buzzes. Not loudly, but enough to be annoying.

I was looking to replace it with the NEC LCD2690WUXI2-BK. I'm confused. There are about 3 different ones on the market. Which is the one I need? I know one of them comes with a color calibrator.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

What are you mainly using the monitor for at home? Gaming, web, photo editing?

Everything you just said. I do it all. And seriously. I do the web editing, photo editing, and music production on pro level.

Have you looked at the NEC PA series? There was a lot of excitement about it, but I don't know how it ended up doing.

Never seen that one before. At any rate, it seems to be new or something; I'd like to stick with something proven, like those other NECs. I think they've been out in the market for at least 3 years or so, so they've had most if not all their kinks worked out.

Well, monitors don't really have "kinks" to be worked out. I'd recommend at least checking the reviews of the PA series. Being older generally isn't a good thing. The PA series has some cool stuff like a hardware 3D LUT.

I tried finding some, but every place seems like they are out 2-4 weeks.:(
