OK, first things first.
I restarted my desktop and before I even saw the XP loading screen, my PC rebooted and it kept rebooting endlessly. So then, I figured it was a Hardware problem, so I opened up my box, vacumed it out. Memory was fine, processor was fine with no overclocks. I know it had to be the hard drive or the IDE controller at this point. My Mobo detected the hard drive but it just wouldn't boot. I then tried booting from a CD and everything was ok, so then it had to be the hard drive. So, I took the hard drive out, put another old 13 GBer in since that was the only one I had lieing around. I just want to see if I can put an OS on there and make it boot up, so I'm positive it's not a bad IDE controller. It's probably unlikely since my CD drives work fine but I still want to make sure. But with this Hard Drive for some reason, my mobo doesnt detect it all the time. I guess since it's old? But sometimes it gets detected and sometimes its not. Another thing thats weird is, even though my Mobo does not detect it, the Win XP setup does because when its formating the disk, you hear it spinning and you can tell its doing shit. So, do you guys think the IDE controller is ok? Is it safe to buy another Hard drive? I'm already pretty pissed off that I lost most of my data. I'm going to try the old drive to see if I can recover any of my data, anyway.
What do you guys think?
