Been using a couple old PATA drives and a crappy seagate SATA2 drive for a while. Oldest drives are 8 years old. Time to upgrade. Looking for a single 2TB drive.

I have an SSD for my OS and most of my programs. The new hard drive will have a few programs, but mostly storage. I also have all of my working directories for photoshop on there (edit all my raw images in-situ). I'd like to get a Western Digital drive for the reliability, but can't decide between green, blue, black, or red. Any suggestions?

Cost is important to me, but I'll pay what something is worth, if you think it's necessary for the description above. It would be nice to save $50 and get the green over the black, but I just don't know enough about performance to make the decision. Thanks.
 
The green if fine for average day to day use. There is no real point spending extra on a non-green drive in a single drive setup. Simply buy the cheapest drive you can get. If you are more concern about reliability, then go for a drive with a longer warranty.

It's the green drive era. You should be able to turn off the frequent head parking. The PIA is the change does not survive a reboot. This can be easily fixed with a boot up script to disable to head parking on boot.
 
Whelp, someone unexpectedly gifted me a G Drive today - 4TB 7200 RPM USB3 version. Looks like its got a Hitachi deskstar drive in it. I'm formatting it to NTFS now. Can anyone vouch for these?
