Looking at a couple cases..

First is Antec P180
Problems 1) I go to a lot of LAN events locally, and it is heavy, steel case.
2) Cabling inside is not the ‘cleanest’ I have seen.
3) for that price, why not Aluminum?
4) Full tower kinda big for a LAN case with all of two HDD, and a DVDRW.

Second Thermaltake Shark (black)
Problems 1) Not as many fans for cooling, I’ve been overclocking in one level or another since my 486DX-25Mhz (Overclocked to 50Mhz) and really want good airflow.
2) The window in the side makes it look like some of the ‘cheap’ cases out there.

shark is so nice in person, local comp shop had a black one, door is nice and solid, the case is super light, has that nice mesh, id take it over the p180 for sure........its a nice looking case

soulsaver

a shark is nothing more than a spiced up version of the dragon with 90* mounted harddrives and two 120mm fans as well as side vents and a removable mobo tray and does look very nice but id hav to take a p180 over it ;)

The P180 is big and plain (notice I didn't say cheap, shiity, etc., just plain) enough that IMO you'd need some serious hardware to have a cool computer in there. You lack the serious hardware from what I hear

The Shark is a pretty good choice. I'd recommend it for the durability Thermaltakes tend to have (built like tanks), the front locking door (could be useful at a LAN party), the window (cause every case needs a window), and the removable motherboard tray (not sure if the P180 had one, but every case needs one).

Personally I'd go with other cases over both, but since it's multiple choice and not fill in the blank, I'll go with Option B :)

Well, the system will be a Duel Core SLI..

Besides these two, what would you go with?

Gigabyte Aurora 3D!! its cheaper than the P180, comes with 3 120mm fans (2 rear, 1 front) side vent. would suit SLI very well :p

eh the gigabyte has nice features but an ugly exterior......id go with a CM stacker or the stacker 810 ;)

ahh lanparties with the p180 sounds like a nightmare.. carring 36lbs(case weight)+parts, also its not very durable since the outter layer is made of aluminum, but other then that its a very clean looking case with good cooling

id personally go for an aluminum case thats still study on the outside for lan parties maybe a lian li or something

wave master. its not heavy at all and looks great. just my 2 cents.

I'd go with anything Lian-Li. First thing I look for in the case though is a removable motherboard tray. I pretty much won't buy anything without one. Past that, anything that can be removed is a plus.

There are many non Lian-Li cases I would buy for a new system, but all Lian-Li cases seem to have some combination of quality/price/cooling/style that makes sense.

I bought the Lian-Li PC-7 Plus case some time ago, and love it- bought from Shentech.com for $120. It looks incredible, IMO- sleek, clean, stylish.

It has 120 mm fans in front and back, with 80 mm blowhole fan. I'm running a 3000+ Venice @ 2.5 gHz and temps are pretty solid - 36 C idle, 44-46 load.

The case is a little on the big side, but it's pretty light considering.

If you want to check it out, it's $109 right now:

Buy a LianLi pc65B, perfect mid tower aluminum case. I had one for 15 months & sold it online to "Angry Games" at dfi street dot com for about half price.

Solid build, kept things cool too.

Thermaltake products are junk, all of them. Flimsy cases and underperforming heatsink fans. They are flashy & hype.

I disagree. I've got a Thermaltake Shark and am very happy with my purchase. It's very sturdy, albeit a bit heavy because of the solid front panel. What I like most about if is the sheer space you have. The thing is huge and working in there is a breeze. The biggest beef I have however is that the first releases' motherboard trays were too short and I ended up having to grind off the lip for my motherboard to fit. Apart from that, I love my Shark and in fact, I'm modding it right now but wether it will suit your specific needs, well, I would suggest you read a few reviews.

1. I've got 4x 120mm Fans in there, not including the 120mm on my Heatsink. Front intake, side intake, top exhaust, rear exhaust.
2. The window isn't bad actually. It looks pretty good and to be honest, I prefer it over a simple plexi but that's just a very biased opinion, heh heh. I've seen allot of people mod the side panel though. Only thing is about that side window is that it attracts dust but that depends on your room's condition. I've got mine sitting on carpet so it's definitly a downer for me.

is the weight really that big of a deal, i mean unless ur walking 5 miles to get there get over it

Its nice that you defend your purchase.
:)

However there are many other superior cases available.

I'm not sure if you were reffering at my post but in case you were, the problem with the front panel's weight is that when you pick it up, it tends to tip towards the front which makes the door just slam open because of the week magnet/clip. However, that can be resolved by locking the door when you're moving it around. :)

No, but the P180 is one heavy bastard. Add 15-20lbs of stuff, and now I'm hauling a computer thats 50lbs and monitor (LCD) and keyboard, mouse, headphones.. 75Lbs up one flight of stairs is still a pain.. Or to the rear training center at a local CompUSA (they have a monthly LAN). Or at Quakecon where you DO need to carry it basically a mile by the time you get to the BYOC area..

I like the CM Stacker and the Tt Armor, I'd like to get one of those. I don't really like the shark for some reason....

Oh, the Tsunami is an excellent case to, and it's wicked light, great for lanning.

Oh I agree, but he asked about the P-180 and the Shark so I gave him my point of view. :)
Hell, if I had to do it over again, I'd probably go for a Lian-Li anyway.
