First, I won't buy online. We don't get good deals like the USA.

I'm running an A64 3800, nv 7300GT (crappy card i know) 4 x 512 ram, 2 dvd's, 4 hd's and 4 usb ports on a antec 480 truepower (the first model that came out). While it is running, everything is on the +12v 22a rail pretty much so upgrading the system would be dicey at best. I don't game so no SLI needed but do photo/some vid editing, stuff like that. Just looking for something that will handle eventually a a64 x2, better vid card, ram & hd's subject to change. lol

The 3 choices I have locally with what I feel like spending at this time are the:
Antec Trio 550 (? no reviews yet)
Silverstone Strider 550
Enermax 565P FMA II (not thrilled with enermax, had a couple die in the past)

All are good choices, get which ever one is cheaper. ;)

What new videocard were you thinking about? I think your current PSU can hold up fine.

No the real old TP's had very low +12V amperage by today's standards,
as back then the CPU was usually powered by the +5V rail. ;)

Indeed, 22A on the 12v as my original post said. Odd it's so low for a atx 2.01 spec., you'd think at least 28A for a 480w.

Interesting side note: antec's site says my truepower 480 is 28A yet my manual and the sticker on the side of the psu says 22A.

Yours is an older model, there were several revisions before the TP II's came out.

David, thanks. Guess I had the very first atx2.01 rev and they bumped it up knowing 22a was way sucky before they went to the TPII.

I'm trying the antec trio 550. I'll post after I've let it burn in a day. Course I'm running on a Asus A8N5X board so things like voltages I can't tell since Asus always have been problematic with the reports the board sensors give.

PS: will I have problems running on a Belkin 1000va UPS simulated sine wave? Or should I just jack the psu into surge bar. I don't run 24/7.

I am not quite sure why you refuse to buy 'online' ?
You have the choice of that, or a local PC shop or store.
Surely given the options, online sites are going to be cheaper ?
Novatech for one, is a good supplier, and their prices are good too................you just have to shop around a bit. Some sites even have a 'free delivery' on some items which saves a few quid.

I've ordered online before but if it's out of country like from the states I get screwed by customs/shipping/brokerage fees. And with local, I can just return it, most stores carry a 1 yr warranty so they do the rma. I've rma'd before from bought online stuff and some stuff it's taken months to get back, some I never got it back, some sent to the online store, some to the manufacturer. And the local is big in Toronto and have a bunch of outlets in other cities including where I am, and their prices good. I actually pay more buying from the states with tax, shipping, custom/brokerage.

No, run your Belkin, it only goes to stepped wave when on battery.
