Hey all..

Just got my hands on a D80 without the kit lens but with a battery grip...

Am gonna pick it up in a week or so...was wondering what lens i should get with it...im pretty dry after putting aside the cash for the body alone...

Am looking to spend around 270 - 300USD only...

The type of pictures I plan to take for a while are mostly portrait oriented...

Any suggestions ? or any more info needed ?

TIA...

I'll second that for your price range. It pretty much stayed on my D50 all the time until I got the 18-200 VR. In fact, I'm looking to sell it and my 55-200. PM me if you're interested.

Oh, and I'm jealous. I'd love to get the D80... :(

haha...thanks...i actually got this 2nd hand from my brother....thats why i dont have the kit lens with it

edit : should i get a SB-600 ? or pour that money into the lens instead ?

I think you'll want one eventually for the additional range and doing bounce flash, but I say start with a couple lenses first. The built in flash is decent; you can get by with it until then.

Put the 18-200 VR on a credit card, saves you from upgrading later...

I would go with a couple of lenses before the flash. In manual mode your flash power output is variable so, you can tone it down quite a bit, if needed. I would price and, get the 30-300 VR myself but, Im not sure what it is selling for at the momment. It was reasonably priced as, I saw it when it came out, a big surprise. Or you can get the non-VR versions for alot less. Also the 50 f/1.8 is dirt cheap. I also have a Tammron 28-300 f/3.5-22, it cost me $250. It does not focus as, fast as, the Nikon lenses and, to me is noisier but, it is a great walking around lense.
