I have done some searching around at the typical sites as well as a couple different Google searches but haven't really found what I want.....basically what I am looking for (if it even exists) is a simple digital clock with blue numbers that is designed to fit into an empty 5.25" drive bay and hooks up via a 4 pin Molex or other common PC power connector. Don't need or want any fan controllers or usb ports or front panel audio connections etc etc...just a simple blue digital clock.

Here is a link to a drive bay cover meant to house a Compunurse...LINK ....which if it held a digital clock instead is more or less what I am looking for.

Any thoughts, links, comments are appreciated.

Hack this into the drive bay.

If you want, just a clock, you could grab an lcd from crystalfontz/matrix orbital and set it up for time and nothing else. Maybe talk to someone at crystalfontz for a customized one.
You could grab one of the multifunction things and just use the one clock function. something like
this

You may be able to find something at allelectronics or some other parts store... I'm looking for something similar, but I also want temperature and the ability to check stats. So I'm going the crystalfontz route.

Matrix Orbital USB VFD, should look the bollocks. Can do more than just time too :D

Maybe try going with a MOS series display, they range between 40 and 70 bucks depending wether you go with a LCD, VFD, or PLED. You can check their web page they would have no problem displaying the time, and looking pretty sharp while doing it. As well as adding support for controlling fans and temps if u felt like connecting it....

And seeing as you are getting a HTPC, you might as well display the time remaining on the movie, the movie name and an EQ... I can understand your interest in going simple, if thats the case buy a watch, take the LCD out and stick it onto your HTPC. It may not be that pretty but it'll do the trick and cost 5 bucks at the dollar store. My uncle does it for his car and it seems to work for him.

yeah if your on a budget

i would just get a digital clcok, usually the actual clock portion is very small, should be easy enough to cut a slit, put the clock in, glue it in place and just go, only thing is batteries.

it would be better to get some kind of lcd and have it display more then just a clock(display track number/song number/movie title/clock/etc/etc/etc)

im pretty sure the ones out these days are simply plug and play with usb? althought i could be completely wrong :)

The MOS displays at matrix orbital are their economy displays, they interface via a serial cable. They still work just as good as the more expensive displays, but they are smaller and don't come with a bay insert. However the actual quality of the display is still better than all the other manufacturer's LCDs, and they have great customer support. You'll have to download the software seperately, but thats not difficult, if you decide to go this way we'll walk you through all the steps.
