Need a calendar with alerts/alarms

Why does M$ not offer a basic alarm clock and calendar with their OS? I dont want to use office and would rather not have to use third party software but I know I dont have a choice. Whats a good calendar with alerts/alarm features but that wont take up a good amount of resources? Thanks
