NEC spectraview problems with displayport Macs

So I have heard that there are problems with the spectraview software and the new macbook pros that have mini displayport. The issue is mentioned on the NEC website. I have one of the new 15" macbook pros and osx 10.5.6. I would love to get a NEC 2490wuxi but it seems i would not be able to calibrate it using spectraview.

My questions is this then, what are my options? I have looked long and hard at many LCDs and decided on this one. Now to find out there are problems.... very frustrating.

Would it make any difference if i plugged it into another mac to calibrate the screen? I think the setting are stored inside the screen so maybe i can do that?

The thing that worries me about this method is that there is also a thread on apple forums of a guy that had 2 new 2690wuxis last week attached to a new nehalem mac pro and after a couple of days they would not work , displaying messages like unable to find dvi signal so he sent them back....

So it the problem solely limited to the spectraview software? If it was, why did his suddenly stop working I wander. Unfortunately it seems like he wasnt willing to mess around so just got rid of them so we might not yet know what caused it but it makes me hesitant.
Anyone tried this out yet or had experience with the problem?

Yes you can plug the monitor into another computer and calibrate it there with the Spectraview software. The monitor itself is adjusted and it remembers the settings.

cool thanks for the clarification. I have an older macbook lying around so i guess i could use that.
