Hi guys, I was messing around on my brothers comp, and noticed his screen seemed a bit stretched, and since he doesnt know alot about computers i decided to check it out. It seems that in the windows display setting, there is no option for 1680 * 1050, which is his lcd's native resolution, it goes from 14*9 to 16*12. Its an ati 3850 so ofcourse the drivers are shit, and for some reason CCC wont open. ive tried googling this problem but im all out of ideas. Plz help:(

Sounds like the drivers are fubar...get driver cleaner and wipe em out then put the latest in there

have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? Be sure you have .net 2.0 or better installed as well or CCC won't work.

alright so i got CCC panel to open and work but its still not working.... monitor is showing as a generic ...its a hannspree, not sure if it maters or not...so any ideas ?? plz help, using an lcd at non native resolution just sucks.

My Dell 2407WFP came with a driver CD for the monitor. Have you searched to see if a driver is posted online for his hannspree?

It's driver problem, clean it, reinstall it, and report back if there are still problems.

nope, still have the same problem. there is an error that occurs during installation but regardless the entire thing installs, and CCC still sees the monitor as a generic, which i thought could be a problem but windows should recognize the size because it did on my westing house on my comp. Any more ideas? im using a dvi to vga connector on this monitor, but im also using one on my westinghouse. Man this one is really killing me!

Something i forgot to add....

I'm also unable to choose a setting higher than 14*9 in all games as well, this probably stems from the same problem but i thought id mention it just incase it rings any bells.

Still sounds like drivers. You say theres an error during the installation? I think you need to download the latest version of .net then try wiping and installing the drivers again.

kk, could there be something with windows using generic drivers for the monitor? and i heard something about modifying inf files or something, anyone know?

What does Windows list the monitor as in Device Manager?
Maybe attempt a driver install from there?

lists it as a non generic pnp.....i found a drive on the hanspree website but nothing happens when i install it. I tried installing it from the device manager but windows said the currently driver was best.

Crapola. PowerStrip use to be able to build a monitor profile and inf file when I used it years ago.

Not used it in awhile, so I can't tell if it supports your OS.

nothing has worked! its the drivers for sure because im using another monitor and same thing. Shouldnt vista have a default widescreen driver? im pretty sure it does but for some reason its not showing 1680*1050......ive reinstalled a million times, i can only think of 2 things....re install vista or try different drivers. Is there a special place to inf's? the worst part of this all is that its a dell xps and i cant help but feel thats the problem lol.

I restored the pc to its factory defaults ( so essentially wiping it) , updated the chipset, installed the new drivers and guess what.....still fail! I think this might be something with the 3850, maybe i have to be dvi to dvi to run at 1680 x 1050 and not using the adapter? Im really starting to run out of ideas. Windows still shows it as generic non - pnp and its getting frustrating. BTW...it doesnt matter which dvi port its plugged into or anything does it?

You are sure you have installed the monitor's drivers? Usually you can download it from the monitor manufacturer's site. If it's not there, you could try using Microsoft / Windows update and look it up under hardware updates. As default I don't think I've ever seen Windows show the correct max native resolution of my monitors.

ya ive looked them up on the manufacturers website, and there really no instructions and stuff but i did the install and all i got was an auto install complete box, nothing else. The thing is, is that it doesnt matter which monitor i use, they resolutions dont change. I tried using my monitor, that doesnt even need drivers (im not using any), and still no 16*10. Im starting to think this might be a 3850/ati deal......

For some reason I lost 1600x1200 and only have 1440x900 and 1680x1050 (native) as my largest resolutions when I switched graphics cards or is it the drivers that did it?

Have you checked here?

Right click Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > Adapter > List All Modes?

Does any higher resolution show up here?

Just something to check as I wasn't sure if you checked there or not.

Well, I am using a 3850 also with an HP 2165, and I haven't had any problems getting the native resolution.

Ok. I went to Hannspree USA site. Is this the monitor? HF229HPB

You attempted to look up additional updates under windows update? More than likely there will be a monitor driver under there. You can't get higher resolutions in games because you have a generic monitor driver. This has nothing to do with your Video drivers. You have to have an actual monitor driver for your monitor in order for it to properly work. CCC is only riding off the monitor driver, therefore the reason you cannot set a higher res. You must find the approriate monitor driver in order to set your resolution to its native res.

ok... first to yadnom, nothing larger than 16*12 is listed under the modes.

and no the monitor is an HF229H and says hannspree on the front..cant find drivers for the exact mondel

and when i got to windows update page it says i have to go thru the CP and have it scan for updates, wont let me search...

anyone know where i can download just a generic monitor update, i think thats the problem, says drivers are from 2006

Have you tried contacting their customer service?

Another option might be that instead of using the driver setup downloaded, you could extract the monitor *.inf files and then use the update driver function, or add hardware function and manually try forcing it to use the extracted inf file

Edit: Oh, and if you haven't already posted this in the Display forum, try doing it now. Some people frequenting that forum might have the same monitor and might be able help.

You don't need to search. It will be under optional hardware updates... If you are using XP pick Custom for updates when you get to the windows update page. If you have Vista look at all available updates.
