I had to switch my TDX from a 478 to a 939 today. I haven't touched my water cooling for about 3 months. I took the TDX off from the loop and drained the water, and i noticed a nasty scum build-up on my tubes. I used Pentosin (blue rad. fluid) and distilled water mix. I think it was 90% 10% but it's been too long to be certain. What is this scum? I can't get it out, so i just left it in there, but i cleaned up the copper on the TDX.
 
I am about to have the same setup, distilled water and pentosin.. anyone know what else to add to make sure its stays clean in your loop?
 
Some form of anti-growth like:

Iodine
Waterbed additive
Aquarium additive
Humidifier additive

as well as others. I have even heard of people asking for some form of anti-bacterial tablets they grind up and add to a loop. Those I *think* came from an aquarium store.

You might also consider increasing your amount of Pentosin in the loop a bit. I think Pentosin is Ethylene Glycol based which is actually somewhat toxic and should help stop/slow growth in your loop. Personally I dont trust it by itself and always use a specific anti-growth additive. The humidifier additive can be found at most pharmacies as can the Iodine for over the counter (non-prescription) sales.

I think www.cool-cases-usa.com may also have a UV/AntiGrowth additive that would work alright in your loop. I think they have either blue or clear which should work alright in your loops.
 
is it a white build-up? the white coating is often times not actually a build-up on the tubes, it is the plastic in your tubes reacting to the anti-freeze.

if you are using pentosin in any decent quantity, you are effectively giving your an abortion, killing all organic life that could grow within.
 
I have actually seen growth in Ethylene Glycol based AF/Distilled water systems but it was largely in very dilute systems. Thats the main reason it never hurts to put in the small amount of anti-growth needed.
