Can an NAS backup system like the WD - My Cloud EX2 8TB 2-Bay External Network Storage (NAS) - Black be accessed via your wifi router? If I connect one of these to my wifi router then would I be able to access it from my wired computers and also any wifi connect device on my network?

Yes and yes. Depending on your wifi it may be incredibly slow though, best to be wired with a NAS

What do you want to access? And Wifi will be extremely slow even the best wifi vs hardware via 1 gigabit connection. For media and docs wifi should be fine. But moving large chucks of data you want to be hardwired.

isn't high end AC actually faster then Gigabit E now?

Just accessing it period...maybe for uploading pictures from phones...for wifi. Thank is the main thing for wifi...everything else can be wired.

No, just no...

500MBit for a single stream, in a lab... If there is more then one wifi network in range, that will drop.

Also keep in mind that wifi computers share the bandwidth, whereas wired computers have 1 Gbit each.

And that is only talking about throughput. The latency of wired gigabit on a good switch will be far lower then for the wifi.

By any measure, gigabit Ethernet still runs rings around wifi.
