I'd like to start by apologizing for my overthinking and indecisiveness. I just hate making a purchase then wishing I would have done it differently later.

So after my last thread, I'm narrowing my selection down some more.

I'm definitely looking at going with an SLI setup and I'm leaning towards the GTX 670. I didn't realize there are 4GB versions of this card, though. The only 4GB versions I found are a couple EVGA reference style cards and a GALAXY. Reference cards tend to be loud and run hot. And isn't Galaxy considered to be a cheaply made brand?

Should I even worry about getting a 4gb card since I'm going to be going to an SLI setup?
If not, what's the general consensus on the best 2gb version to buy? I've typically stuck with ASUS products when possible, but I've been seeing where people have been having issues with them lately.

What about the 3gb versions of the 660ti? I could about get three of those for the price of two 670s.

Are you going to run 3 monitors with your setup? Unless you are running 5760x1080 I wouldn't worry about the 4GB version.

Two GTX 670s should hold you over for the next few years.

From my research, 2x 670 2GB should be more than fine. But at that high resolution, AMD are the better way to go.

Uhh 5760x3240 is like 9 screens? 2GB of VRAM in an SLI setup starts to bottleneck at triple screen 5760x1080.

Currently I'm working with one dell ultra sharp u2711. Id like to go with a triple screen setup, but I can't find anything what has the wide gamut I need for photo editing and a small bezel. I'd love to go with a plp setup but I can't swing selling mine and spending another 1200 in screens. Besides, that seems like it would be too big!
 
At 2560x1440 4GB cards won't give you much, if any benefit over 2GB.

But considering the 7950 is $100 cheaper than the 2GB 670 I'd get 2 of those instead. That's a $200 saving and when overclocked their performance is similar.
 
I'm about to pull the trigger on a single GTX-690 with the intent of getting an additional one soon.

Is the ASUS TOP version worth trying to find now that it's discontinued? It seems like the only difference is it's already OC'd. If I get the normal version, I should easily be able to match the TOP version, right?
 
any 6 series 4gb card is a waste. you are limited by bandwidth from what i understand
 
Dremic, have you run into many situations that your 670 couldn't handle? Would you buy the same card if you had to do it over again?

definitely not. honestly i think i would go higher, just because its not that much more and youre already making such a large purchase. probably msi 7970 or msi 680.


i am about to buy a u2713hm when it releases in the US and i definitely will be wishing i had an MSI 7970.


that being said, most games run with absolutely no issues whatsoever. battlefield fps never drops below 50 and is commonly at a solid 60.. some of the smoke effects and tank explosions etc can lower the fps but not below 50 i dont think.

one thing i will say for sure is i definitely wouldnt buy a 660ti at its price / performance. 670 is a good card but i think the extra 100$ probably less then 100 is worth it to get the better cards



EDIT:

id also like to add i wouldnt buy an asus 670 again either. i think the gigabyte 670 is significantly better all around.
 
Thanks for the info. I heard the gigabyte one was noisy is why I hadn't looked more into it. I'll have to check it out.

Honestly, I'm afraid of driver issues with the amd's. I've had bad experiences in the past and they don't seem to be doing much better. Especially when ran in crossfire.

NV surround is generally better supported but most of the time AMD drivers are fine.
