I have an FX-53 on an Asus A8V deluxe mobo with 1GB of Corsair Twinx-3200xl ram. I have tried to overclock this system to no avail and I can not get passed FSB of 210 before memtest86 gets errors. I am running at 2:1 (DDR400).

I have read others about lowering the HTT to 3x or 4x but I do not see this option in my bios. The only thing I have similar is Hyperthreading and the options 700, 800, 900, 1000.
 
Well HTT 1000 is HTT 5x and HTT 4x = 800 and HTT 3x =600 Simple it means how much times is HTT (or FSB) faster then memory clock. With nForce chipset it's regulated with 5x 4x etc.

Your mobo has Via chipset hence it's slightly different.


Setting Your HTT to 800 will lower strain on chipset and it can give You better chance to OC.
Next to a fact that HTT is pretty highly clocked 1000 MHz (5x 200 MHz of memory clock) it's also transmiting data with dual rate hence it's effectivly 2000MHz bus. So high speed is nececcary cause it's if I'm not wrong only 16 bit wide.
Now imagine with 210 MHz on RAM You are OC-ing RAM for only 10 MHz (TWINX 3200XL is one of the best modules from Corsair it has Samsung TCCD and reaches 2-2-2- up to 230 MHz ) but at the same time effectivly You are asking FSB to work with 100 MHz more and there is a chance for chipset to hang.

Okay thanks I will try lowering the HT to 800 and see if I can push it above 210. Let me see if I understand this tho. So assuming I reach FSB of 230, with an HT of 800 my mem speed should be 1840 mhz and my cpu speed will be 2760 mhz (12 multi). Right? The mem speed should also never go over 2000mhz for DDR400, correct? If I hit a roadblock I just loosen the timmings from 2-2-2-5 to 2.5-3-3-7.

I will have to give this a try over the weekend. First I have to switch from the VIA SATA controllers to the Promise, since they keep corrupting my HDD when I overclock. Thanks for the help and the guide.
 
your HTT multiplier takes ur FSB times whatever your HTT multi is set to get the # (4x multi with 230FSB = 920).
