n00b multiplier question

i am probably wrong but.......for the new 90nm processors, the 3000+ is 1.8ghz, so that would mean it is set at 200x9(right?) and the 3200+ is 2ghz, so it would be 200x10(correct?), so wouldnt u be able to oc the 3200+ more then the 3000+ on air cooling(with it being stable)?
 
depends every chip is different and results WILL vary

Aside from that both would have there pros and cons

The 3000+ would be less likely on average to reach the same speeds as the 3200+ but if it could be done you would have a much higher FSB which would increase performance.

my Pentium 4 2.4c spanks my 2.8e in memory performance because
2.4@3.2 = 12x270
2.8@3.4 - 14x244

So even though the 2.8 is clocked faster now the FSB is almost 30mhz lower
 
oh....ok...i was thinking since i herd that amd has locked multipliers that if u had a higher one(considering u had the same fsb) it would be all around better, but i see if it has a higher mulitiplier that the fsb would be lower......thx
 
the fsb will noit necesarily be lower, it will be only if you set it higher

I you run the memory slower at 1:1 ratio you could get higher preformance rather than a higher fsb and lower ratios. but in the example the lower clcoked ship will have less memory bandwith but that doesnt automatically mean its better.

in general yes, the higher the multiplier the more you can oc a chip, thats why people can get insane overclcoks on fx chips as thier multipliers are unlocked.
 
yeah higher multipliers can help but some chips only go so far becuase of their core type . You would need really fast ram the smaller multipliers you use. keep that in mind.
