My temps seem too high...

I'm running an E6750 stock w/ a Scythe Ninja (fan is on it) and an 8800GTS in a TT Tsunami.

I'm running Orthos and RTHDRIBL so my system load is pretty much, well, maxed.

Coretemp is showing my processor as 45 and 50 and abit's program is showing 51, my system temp is showing 43. My GPU (obtaining via nvtemplogger) is shown at 82C and it seems to be slowly climbing. These temps seem REALLY high to me, because many people are saying they're running C2Ds with STOCK coolers and getting better temps than I am with my Ninja?

I want to OC, but if I'm getting 50s under load, it doesn't seem like much of an option.

EDIT: I just bumped it up to 3.2Ghz, still running Orthos, but I decided not to use RTHDRIBL since most people don't run that which means I was generating a lot more heat thanks to my GPU, and my load temps are shown in Core Temp to be 40/42, and abit is showing 48-49. I guess this seems more normal and coincides with others temps.

first off, run coretemp 95.4 beta. They read the G0 stepping correctly. next, yuor temps are horribly high. Do you have a closed case? If so, are there enough intake/exhaust fans, are they working? simple shit like that can mean alot. Open cases stilla ren't immune to good airflow around cpu/gpu intake/exhaust. If it's both that are suffering, I have to assume it's intake/exhaust issues, if it were one, feel the area around it and see if there is airflow/excessive heat. I the heatsink is cool, bu the temps are retarded, make sure its seated right....have fun!

O yeah, running Orhtos and rthdribl together is a bad idea. Orthos takes cpu time from rthdribl and they make each other run alot slower, resulting in lower temps....trust me, I've done it, nad my system runs (relatively) cool and stable.

Alright, I have 3 case fans (120 and PSU output, 90 and 120 input). I just got 95.4 and @ 3.2 running just Orthos, my temps are showing 57/58. Taking the side of dropped it down to 51/54, so not much. My heatsink definitely doesn't feel hot, actually it's barely warm towards the top of it. The base is still cooler than I'd think it should be.

I guess I'll take it off and clean it up real pretty and try and seat it better next time.

for the record, my (lapped and passive) ninja on top of (lapped) e4300 doesn't get hot at all. The heatpipes are barely warm to the touch, even after being at load for a time, even though there's good contact. my temps are very good for running passive and with only two 120mm fans in the case running at 500 rpms all the time.

that being said, i dont think those temps look bad at all, especially oc'd, and it looks like your case setup demonstrates good airflow. lapping things and perhaps modding the mounting system will improve temps, see my post here http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42747

well since you said the your cooler is just warm to the touch that is a problem you should be able to feel it being a more then a little warm so I would say reseat your heat sink and tell us your temps.

I decided what the hell and just did it tonight. I took it off, took out the processor, cleaned them both with ArctiClean and then put a line of AS5 just as their site says to do. I'm now running orthos and after two minutes, both are showing 50, but I put the clock speeds back at stock.

EDIT: Strangely enough, abits program is showing a value of 43C, much lower than Core Temp 0.95.4.

EDIT#2: After 35 minutes, both temps seem to have stabled out at a max of 55, but it goes back and forth from 54 to 55. It's odd that this time they are staying the same exact heat.

Woke up this morning and coretemp said 57 on both after 7 and a half hours of orthos. These temps seem obnoxiously high. What gives?

Can anyone shed some light? I don't know what to do about these temps. 57C running Orthos 7 hours with a Scythe Ninja seems obnoxiously high, doesn't it...?

Try lapping your HS and CPU

Yeah, my cpu and hs are lapped, it's not even a mirror finish, I was just suspect of the concave/convex issue. make sure you do it on glass, tho, I made the mistake of using plexiglass the first time and had a convex chip/heatsink base. 2/3 of the chip didn't make contact so I had massive hotspots and the damn thing would crash at anything over 50C. Temps on my rig never get over 52C and it's stable as hell. Give lapping a try, void your warranty! You know you want to....

It's pretty obvious you have bad air circulation in your case. What is your case? Your room temp and system temp? If both teh GPU and CPU are high it's obvious.

Wow, you guys are ridiculous. 57C under load is nothing.

lol, yeah only 6 degrees away from the thermal limits of the chip as stated by the intel whitepaper. What's electromigration? Honestly, 57 is cutting it close, when I said his temps were horribly high, I meant his GPU, it seems to not be getting any circulation. Couple that with a closed case and with some good gaming he could totally fill the case with really hot air, reducing the effectiveness of his cpu cooler even more, spiking it above the 65C thresh. Sheesh.

Exactly, plus, use CoreTemp95 and set it to show the delta to Tmax, that reads corrdcty, the other way is not real close sometimes.

Besides, TMax is what you should be worried about ayways. My E6400 at 3.2ghz with a Big Typhoon (original) max loads at 29c REMAIING to the point at which throttling would begin, and it has been that way for along time.

A true 57c is practically refrigerated for the C2d's.

ORTHOS loads a cpu like no other, so really, you are FINE. ORTHOS is basicaly WORST case scenario....there is no game out there that will load the cpu as hard as that. Enjoy the overclock.
