I figure I would make a new thread, since my last one was about speed step and accidentally posted that thread twice. Sorry. :p

Anyway, here is what is going on.

Air Cooling btw.

Takes were taking after just exiting Company of Heroes at max settings.

You aren't done yet, man...

Get into the nitty-gritty of the OC sticky and really stress it out with Orthos or Prime95.

Common, push it.

Go For for least 3.2 Ghz on stock voltages. Then adjust them from there, depending if it is stable or not.

We're not slow today..

Think I can hit 3.0 at stock and keep decent temps?

You'll never know until you try. I can.

What's your cooling like?

Stock, and doing surprisingly well.

I just don't want to raise vcore yet for 3.0 .

STOCK HSF
120 MM Rear Outake
120 MM Front Intake
90 MM Side intake

Man you should strap a ultra-120 to that beast, you'd get far better temps and could reach a higher OC

I'm at 9 x 334 now and stable @ 3.006.19 Ghz / 1336 FSB

And still at stock voltage!

:D

CPUs cool off incredibly fast. By the time you exit a game (which doesn't fully load a CPU anyway - especially CS:S) they can drop 10-15 degrees or more. Run Orthos while watching Coretemp.

QFT

you can probably squeeze 3.2 at stock volts out of that thing. those G0 chips are amazing.

No, I alt-tabbed and checked in game.

I made sure.

;)

I really don't want to go over the 1333 FSB rating on my motherboard.

I'm a chicken, I know. :p

Alt-tab isn't going to work either. The game is using more of your GPU than CPU.

Run some Prime95 or Orthos. Just like in the OC sticky. It is a good idea to know your max temps under load...and if your OC will fail due to vdroop / not enough voltage.

Ran some super pi.

Will test next weekend, most likely. Seems stable in general use for now.

What is the benefit of tighter ram timings exactly? My ram is rated 4-4-4-12 but is at 5-5-5-15 for the overclock.

Why are you afraid to run Orthos? It's pretty much the standard. Alt-tabbing during Counterstrike isn't worth jack.

You should only give it vcore when it needs it. That is to say, never assume you need to change the Vcore when on a higher clock before actually testing it. Obviously if it does not POST or boot into windows you up the vcore one notch at a time until you are able to boot into windows and then use the computer as you normally would..

Orthos, Prime 95 or OCCT is the only thing that matters and for 8-12hours to be considered stable, Super pi says abslutely nothing other than that you memory can be stressed a short time.

True, but I don't take Prime95 results as the end all be all. I had a past system that would fail after 8 hours of Prime 95, but that same system at those settings ran fine for me for a couple years with no problems.

Looks very nice. I'm thinking hard about getting a similar setup to replace my failing backup system. BTW, you can log your temps with Intel's TAT program, so it'll let you know what your temps are while using any program or game.

Keep us updated.

System in sig is >24hours prime stable. Multiple sessions. You can push a G0 stepping fairly far.

100% system stability is not always guaranteed, but with a 24 hour session of prime 95, you can be a bit more confident that in a most critical situation, it won't go on you or miscalculate something.

8 hour prime and fail means the system is not ideal for mission critical type calculations say calculating something in prime, folding @ home or similar projects which require all precision calculations to be dead on. I wouldn't even trust a system to compile programs on a system that fails prime.

Just because you can use it for browsing, little gaming, nothing loading up is not a good litmus test. With the advent of HT, dual core, and quad core cpus, system stability has increased to a point that errors that used to lock a system can go by undetected since not all cores or threads are failed. In a quad, if just one goes, you still have the other 3 possibly running the OS fine, but then try to load up that failed core and you could BSOD.

I guarantee you that your temps will rase at least another 10c if you use p95 with 4 threads.
I know because my temps behave the same way while playing a game. Once you start to stress all 4 cores your temps will hit a max in about 5min.

I'll try it.

*Edit* I'm running it right now for 5 minutes of torture test.. and it's about 56*C on avg with minimal hops to 59-61 on one of the cores.

The coolest is reporting 51-56.
