ok heres the deal. first of all here is my specs:

mobo: soltek sl-75drv5
cpu: jsut upgraded to a athlon xp 2600
512 ddr ram
fx5900xt vid card

ok....i had a athlon xp 1900 and i installed it jsut fine on my motherboard and it read the correct speed after i set the jumpers to the corect voltage, ect. now i am upgrading to a 2.13 ghz cpu and after i installed it , it is still reading that i have a 1.6 ghz xp 1900!
on the soltek motherboard i had to flash my motherboard in order to run the higher xp chips. in the new bios it is compatible with the xp 2400,2600, and 2700. so instead of buying a new mobo i just flashed the one i have and everything went good until i turned it on to see that it is still reading that i have a 1.6 ghz machine. i thought it would be with the fsb but it is set to 133 on the switch settings on my motherboard. i don't know what else to try. would some kind soul research up my mobo and tell me why my computer is not reading my correct cpu speed..

please help.

thank you

so you're running at 133 Mhz FSB but ur still getting 1.9 Ghz?
change ur multiplier

im not very familiar with the 266FSB 2600+'s but i think it should be 133x16?
to get 2.13?

ok, i got it to display 2 ghz FINALLY but now my system keeeps locking up after or before windows bootup. i once was able to boot everything fine and as soon as i ran a program, it froze up. my multiplier on my motherboard only goes up to 12.5x. maybe i jsut need a new motherboard. this is very frustrating though. i went into bios and made my mem run at 166 which is right for my 33 mem to do and i set my voltage to 1.65 which it is. so now it is just not wanting to stay stable. arggggg ... any more help?

If the 2600+ is a barton, the FSB should be 166 bud.

12.5 multi x 166.66FSB = 2083.25Mhz

If the above dont help, you may want to check for a bios update. (might be something they addressed) Before that though id try setting it to autodetect if thats possible, and clearing the cmos.

i have the tbred 333 2600. i set the multiplier to 12.5 and the i fixed the jumpers to my setting but it locks up shortly after windows boots up. any more help anyone? i just did the bios flash which updates it to support my new card. please give me some more ideas.

1) Find out if the exact processor you bought is supported by your board...if yes, go to Step 2.

2) Set the correct values in your BIOS for multiplier and bus speed.

3) Enjoy

i dont have the barton. i have the one from newegg that is 333 tbred. if my fsp is 166...what should i set my multiplier to?

and if this doesn't work..i need a new mobo..what is the best mobo for a low low price that will actually work ahhh

Holy 4th grade math, Batman.....does anyone do anything for themselves anymore?

2080 Ghz / 166 Mhz = 12.5 multiplier.

Do what djnes said, and then set the RAM timings to 2.5-3-3-11. Do you even have PC2700 or PC3200 RAM?
Stalling when Windows should begin loading or when a program should begin loading indicates in many instances that the RAM is unstable. In loading a program, RAM is used extensively, so if it is ify to begin with, it can and will crash.

sorry i'm stupid...how do i set ram timings?

and the ram i got is was the best at the time i believe...i think it had somethin to do with 333

oh yes....i am pretty sure my ram is pc2700...ddr333

what does that mean i have to do

Go to the BIOS page that looks like this: http://www.cpu3d.com/review/sl75drv5/bios2.jpg. Set the CAS latency to 2.5 or 3. You don't seem to be able to manually set RAS to CAS delay, RAS precharge delay, or actve precharge delay, but on some boards CAS latency meant all of those anyway. Then make sure the chip is set to 12.5x166 and at least 1.65v.

LOL, just set everything to AUTO for the CPU multi / FSB and then set the memory to "By SPD". Everything should come up correct, if not then you need to update the BIOS so it recognizes your CPU.

i don't know anything about computers, but with a name like waaazzzuuuup, i wouldn't help you even if i did. sorry.

this is totally irrelevant to his issue, if you don't want to help then don't post in this type of thread

IS the BIOS the correct revision? You NEED the 16x multi for your processor to work at the right speed. However you look at it, that 16x multi is key.

Clear CMOS and try booting again.
