ok so i have got some advice in different areas of the board for different parts of my project and here is my final selection as it stand right now unless anyone has any compelling reasons to change anything.

the back story is i am setting up a network/server for a small business (less that 15 ppl) and will be maintaining it after
the server will act as a Domain Controller and Fileserver

Firewall:
pfsense running on redundant SUPERMICRO SYS-5015A-PHF 1U Barebone Server Intel Atom D510 processor

Network:

Switch: Dell Power Connect 2824 gigabit switch (i know lots of people dislike these but i have had great luck with them and the price point is amazing)
Wifi: D-Link DWL-3200AP (only needs to cover a small office maybe 2000 sq ft with the server room dead center)

Server:

Dell Power Edge R310:
PowerEdge R310 Chassis, Up to 4 Hot Plug Hard Drives and LCD diagnostics
Intel® Xeon® X3430, 2.4 GHz, 8M Cache, Turbo
4GB Memory (4x1GB), 1333MHz, Single Ranked UDIMM
2x 250GB 7.2K RPM SATA 3.5" Hot Plug Hard Drive
RAID 1 - Add-in SAS6iR/H200/H700 (SAS/SATA Cntrlr), 2 Hot Plug HDD (raid 1 for windows will also install 2 1TB drive in raid 1 for data with dual external usb drives for backup)
SAS 6iR SAS internal RAID adapter, PCI-Express for Hot Plug Hard Drive Configuration
DVD-RW Drive, SATA
Power Supply, Non-Redundant, 350W
iDRAC6 Enterprise
2x Extra Hot-Swap trays

OS: Dell?
Windows Server 2008 R2, Standard Edition,x64, Includes 5 CALS $870.00
15-pack of Windows® Server 2008 User CALs (Standard or Enterprise) $650.00

So what are the thoughts? I should mention the business is dell shop and would prefere dells.

also if someone could explain what this is:
Windows Server®2008SP2,Std x64,ACAD,w/Hyper-V™,5CALs,w/2008R2 Lic [add $270.00]
does it include a full licence for Server 2008 R2 and 2008sp2 for $270???

As always I appreciate everyone input and help!

te add $270 option gives you s2k8 w/ hyper-v so you can virtualize additional server 2k8 instances on the host without additonal licensing fees iirc.

i assume we are talking about this?
Windows Server®2008SP2,Std x64,ACAD,w/Hyper-V™,5CALs,w/2008R2 Lic [add $270.00]

so it's an additional option to add a virtual copy of 'server2008 sp2' to run on a 'server 2008 R2' host in hyper-v? am i understanding this correctly?

I guess i was so confused because on Dell's site you can not select both at the same time you can select one or the other, so it does not seem like an add on
