So I have a Dell optiplex 755 with a C2D E7200 as my 24/7 folding machine. It is on Windows 7 64-bit with 8GB of RAM. I believe I am getting low PPD with this setup being I am averaging around 67 PPD. Am I Folding wrong?

Sounds like you are running classic units, make sure you have the -smp flag

core 2 duo can run smp? .. if yes, won't help much i think.

some of the newer ones it probably cant, forgot some big un's were released into the wild recently...

as Nathan said, even with uni CPU you will still have bonus points , so it should be higher PPD

They can, i'm not sure if they can complete all projects in time though.

@OP, Welcome and have you registered for a passkey, even with the uniproc client core A4 WU will give you bonus points once the passkey is qualified

passkey info:-http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey

Yes I have a passkey. I just downloaded the client and ran it with my passkey. I'll try adding the SMP flag when I get home. I found a database on OCN of my processor at stock speeds running SMP and it was at like 2000 ppd. Not enough for the drawing still unfortunately:(.

Time to find a q6600 on ebay ;)

Yeah, problem is I'm on a tight budget. Everything in my 755 was free lol. Was thinking of picking up a Q9400 or a GT 430, but I just can't find a good enough reason to spend money right now.

Have a Q8200, GTX 550TI on my 24/7 folding machine, 7k ppd stock, 11k ppd when i load the overclock profile. Is this ok, or did I mess up somehwere?

I have a E7200 that gets about 1000 a day when I run it on a single core. Are you using V7 or 6.34? Are you running anything else? Are you in power saving mode?

No that is the only thing running, and no I disabled all power saving options. I'm not sure which version, at work atm will have to check when I get home.

Anyone here have a Folding Farm, if so any cost/performance parts you suggest.

I used to get 1400-1800ppd on 2GHz Dual Core (Core 2 based) chips.

You should be getting near or over 2k ppd with that chip.

-smp 2 is the way to go, and make sure to have your passkey in there too.

yea it's mainly a question of "what is your budget?"

When we know that, we can get you steered into a machine that gets the most PPD and most PPD per watt.

Farm.... oh yea!.... but it depends... some run 2 or more 4P AMD machines... I run 4 i7s... all in my sig, so let us know what you want to do, and we'll get you headed in the right direction.

Thanks for the advice, my budget would be 500, good enough for a entry-level farm?

I get 1500'ish ppd with an AM2 x2 5200+ .. I would think that the E7200 would get more than that..?

You can build a basic 2600k boxen for that.

Farm is when you get a few of those boxen

yep, basic 2600K, low power so less on the electric bill. Pick up a buget refurb Coolermaster 212 for $13 along with a buget 1155 board and OC it. I've got my buget 2600K clocked at 4.6 (I got a bit of luck on that chip) and get 36000 points a day out of it.

You might even have some of the bits and bobs already laying around.... used HDD, used optical, used case, used PSU, used video... nothing fancy a small SATA drive would do. Ubuntu is free.... keeps prices down. I grabbed a used 2600K and psu and 4 gig of ram for less than $300 and had the case and everything else laying around. I know 2600K had onboard vid, but my philosiphy is, if you us it, it generates heat and takes away from the OC, so a basic PCIE VGA will do, no frills required.

Yeah, I get over 3000 ppd on my Core i3 2100t, and I'm able to put away WUs from project 7200 in 13 hours. There's no reason you couldn't finish those within a day, and that's plenty of time.

Wow, thanks so much guys, 36k is no joke, i'm definately building one of these. I was getting 7k from my q8200+9500GS, then 10k from when I switched to GTX 550 Ti. Now i'm thinking selling all my unused electronics and building a couple of these, hopefully with good results like yours(fingers crossed).

Hopefully! It's at stock clocks so I have no idea. But in any case I will be finding out soon since I just reconfigured my client.
