These "delayed write failed" errors only happened occasionally at first. Then the past few days, my system would crash about 2-3 times a day. And yesterday, the system crashed and wouldnt restore. My pro magic plus program gave me the error "No driver insalled or destroyed, unable to protect!"

I dont think there is anything I can do to restore it... but is there anything I can do to save the data on it? I know have I have no choice but to buy another harddrive. And yes I am gonna return the harddrive as soon as I get the chance, it only lasted like a month!
 
i say try to see if you can put it in an external enclosure, or try it in another rig to see what happens :confused: i dunno what to tell ya

That's about the only thing left to do. There are data recovery places that can get data off the platters themselves, but it can cost an arm... and a leg.

Someone else mentioned in another thread that if it isn't mechanical failure and you buy an identical drive, you MIGHT be able to swap the PCB's and pull the data off that way. That's iffy, though.

 
If the drive is exhibiting delayed write failures, it is most likely mechanically dead and will probably not be saved by a PCB swap. Typically, PCB swaps work only on drives that won't even detect/spin up.
 
You could always try the freezer trick. It might work, though it was mostly for IBM Deathstars.
Also, just so you know, in terms of failure chance per unit of time the most likely time for a disk to fail is when its new. Once they get past the first couple months they usually last for years.
 
Thanks for the advice guys... I dont think I can save anything... but I guess I'll live, I have all the CD's so installing all my games/programs again shouldnt be too difficult. Im going to return this dead 80GB harddrive on monday. im also about to buy a new 160GB so next time I'll have two drives instead of one.
