I was streaming some video from a miniDV cam to my system when I left the room for about half an hour. I come back to see no signal on my monitor so I pressed the reboot button. Now all I get is beeping from the motherboard with no signal to the monitor. The beeping sounds like a siren ..

This is the second time this has happened in the past couple of months. I had replaced the CPU the first time and it started to work again. I don't know whats causing this..

I've tried clearing the CMOS and checking each individual part with no success.... any ideas?

Athlon 2500+
Epox 8RDA+
Mushkin 512mb PC3200
Radeon 9500pro
SB Audigy2
Antec 480w PSU

Does the beeping from the motherboard correspond to any of its beep codes?

If not, just start swapping stuff out because something is screwed good or grounded out, like the mobo itself.

Does the beeping sound like the french police? If so, then your computer overheated and died. If you don't know what the french police sound like, it is a long series of beeps, long and short.

Siren is the overvolt or overheat alarm from the mobo.

Swap the cmos clear jumper to clear, count slowly to 30.

Swap it back, then wait 10 min. It should boot right up.

You probably had a power surge or a brown out. Happened to me many a time with that mobo.

that's the sound alright... I guess that means theres a possibility I may have to get yet another CPU.. and being in school, I'm already broke enough as it is.
damn ...

I guess my Vantec Aeroflow just isn't cutting it... it usually idles around 41c

I'll give that a try
worst thing is, the power goes out in my section where my room is located every so often when the breaker is overloaded (its a dorm)..

That would be it :)

The surge / drop will knock it out of voltage parameters, and it will cut off to prevent problems. Just do what I said, and it ~should~ come back.

Didn't work unfortunately... looks like I'm screwed.

Doh. :(

Try leaving the cmos jumper on clear for a few min, then try again.

Still no go... even tried taking the battery out for a bit. Looks like I might have to go through a 3rd CPU....

Don't forget to a good heatsink too. Seems that your system overheats with the hs you have now.

I don't get it though... if it idles at 41c, then shouldn't it be just fine? The highest I've seen it at load was around 52c..

the last time this happened, the computer wasn't even on. It had been off for 2 weeks during christmas break and when I came back, the computer wouldn't turn on and it was this same error...

any suggestions for a hsf?

Yea, its tough. Ive done the exact same thing. On my 3rd cpu too.

I have that HSF on a seriously overclocked 1700+. No problems... it should be fine. I'd try a new mobo.

I've got three aeroflows, and they all run cool, could it be something else? PSU?overclocking?bad mobo?

well the PSU should be fine... it's a fairly new Antec TrueBlue 480w. The CPU was at stock when this happened. The mobo COULD be the culprit... I don't know for sure though.

I do have an Abit NF7-S lying around I could try... but I'd have to get a new CPU first...... and I'm not sure about the HSF yet

pull your ram out, reboot, put the ram back in and start your comp up

If this doesnt work, clear your CMOS by swapping the jumper to the next pin over and back again.

If this doesnt work, remove the onboard battery from your motherboard and clear your CMOS as described above, then put everything back to its original state and reboot

If none of these work, your comp is dead, SHOOTS BRUDDAH!!!

We already went through ALL of these.

Read.

well I just got another CPU to try and its the same thing..... .I'm lost

did he check the battery voltage/replace or just pull it?

if that isn't it and I was him I would invest in a good UPS.
