My main computer in my sig just died. I just tried to turn it on, powers on for about 2 seconds, leds light up, cpu fan and video card fan work, and then it just dies...

I'm thinking it has to be the CPU, b/c i figure if it was the ps it wouldn't start up at all,if the mobo was gone i don't think any of the fans would work. What do you guys think? Thx.
 
Try unplugging it, let it sit for a min, and then power it back on. I have found this sometimes fixes that
 
Yeah, try no power cord and switch the PSU off for a while. Then you also might want to reset the bios just for sakes. Then if that doesn't work, you'll have to just trouble shoot. Like disconnecting drives and most stuff and see how long it last, if long enough for it to beep about missing hardware.
 
It might be PSU. I had a similar thing with my comp where it would power up, spin up drives and power down, click bang.

It turned out to be the PSU.

Relax, I pretty much guarantee it is the PSU. Try another one from Fry's and then make sure... But the CPU is probably fine...
 
my mobo does that when the cmos jmper is in the reset position. check that. and while your in there, might as well reset the cmos anyway
 
I had a Soyo motherboard that did the exact same thing, if it did not detect a fan for the processor, there was a specific header that it had to be on for it to allow the system to boot. If you have another fan laying around it might be something to try.

But even if it didn't allow it to boot, is it normal for it to suddently power down like he says, I would think it would just sit there running after giving a coded beep.
