My 4870 problems

A few months now I have a problem with my 4870. It's driving me crazy. The card overheats if it runs at default speeds (750/900) to the point where I get a heart attack ... a few days ago I saw 118 C on the GPU and about 125 C on the GPU memory :eek: . I think it is because of all the dust blocking the ventilation, because I don't feel any hot air coming out of the back of the card. Its as if the GPU cooler doesn't suck in air, but expels it :confused:.
The fan runs at 100% and I have tried cleaning the card with compressed air, but that only made it worse... and I am forced to run the card at 560/680.
What do you guys suggest to do until January when I will buy a new 6xxx card? I don't want to invest any more money in this card.
 
reapply the heatsink and thermal paste and see if that helps if not then just hold out
 
I run a 4890 and I am using MX-2 Thermal I idle around 43c & full load about 78c. You should reapply thermal and reseat the heatsink.
 
Reapply thermal paste and reseat the heatsink, or possibly look into getting a new heatsink aswell.
