Hello people,

I need some help on a configuration with multiple NICs.

This should be implemented on a Windows Home Server 2001 (WServer 2008 R2)

My idea was to use one card for regular LAN stuff (file sharing, random apps, internet access)
The other card I would like to specify only for Virtual Machines which are on VMWare server
(192.168.1.1 - Server)
(192.168.1.2 - Virtual Machines)

The problem is that if both are on the same network the OS starts to randomly use both. I tried to decrease the priority on the second but it didn't work.

How can I make this work ??

Why not run both servers inside ESXi and just create two different vswitches?

I would prefer to try first with a base winserver and then if it's not possible format the whole thing and change to esxi

It's possible to unbind the server from the second nic and use it only when specific software binds it?

Since I am a real noob relating to subnets, let me ask a question.

My router is 192.168.1.100
1st NIC is 192.168.1.1 /24
How can I configure the 2nd NIC which is in a different subnet 192.168.2.1 /24

What gateway should it have in order to have internet access to the virtual machines?
