multiple drives lags?

i have 3 semi-new IDE HDs, 2x 200 GB and 1x 80 GB.

you can see my system specs in my sig, it's a decently fast machine but when i double click the other drives to see the contents or try to save something into another drive, my computer lags like hell.

like C drive is fine, but the other 2 drives are laggy, you know delays, mouse drags when loading up stuff..

why is this happening?
 
drives jumpered correctly? Since they are IDE what is sharing a channel?
 
i dunno, 3 masters?

i have no idea.

i had 1 hd set to primary ide
then 2 hds set to secondary ide's, all had jumpers on 'master.'
 
If you are using two cables (total) to connect 3 HDDs to your mobo, one of them has to be set to "slave". In fact, one of the two drives sharing a channel needs to be set to slave, the other to master.
 
I'd also be looking at DMA settings for all the drives to make sure your correctly confirgured.

EDIT: btw, my ide controller card (pci slot) has 2 ide slots, if i set a DVD burner to one slot and a HD to another would it slow it down to the slower devices speed or not since they are on different channels (right term?)
 
You could try checking your power savings settings. I set all my extras drives to turn off after 15 minutes of being idle. This keeps them cooler and uses less power, but it also takes about 10 or so seconds to spin up again when they get tasked for something. Does the lag occur all the time or just at the start of something specific to those drives?
