My friend (Tylander, you may see him around here) and I are putting a NES, SNES, and PSX into a computer case for a project at school. I was just wondering if anybody had any tips, as this is our first actual mod, aside from painting cases and sticking an LED in my mouse :D .

Also, if anybody can recomend a cheap case, that'd be cool because all we have to work on is this really small case with a friends phone number written on it in Sharpie :p .

think yoshi for the screensavers had a work log on his that he did.

Why bother with a computer case? Go down to the thrift store and get a big old VCR, stereo, or something. Cheap and neat.
 
I'd get an XXYY Case, more room and it'll look stylish if you can manage to do it right
 
Or instead of shoving all that into a computer, you could just use a computer and emulate it all! Hell the games will probably run better too (in some cases, worse in others)
 
Emulation without the original consoles / games is strictly illegal and shouldn't be discussed here

i was planning to do this exact same thing 2 years ago in seventh grade. i called it the G3 (gaming to the third, as it was to have a GC, PS2, and XB in it). i had it fairly well planned out. until it came to funds. :p

im still interested in doing this project, but not now. im glad someone else has the willpower to also take on this mod. good luck guys! :D
 
Pretty cool idea. I remeber yoshi's one. Ill try to find the video on the TSS site (i know its there) where it shows Yoshi's console box. It was pretty nice.

Atleast its more original then window mods, give the guy a break. This is a challenging job :rolleyes:
 
Thanks for the links, I'm still looking for the best case IMO for the job. I also decided to stick in a A/V switch in for extra convenience!

I'll report back when I get somewhere on this project, which shouldn't be too far away.
 
If you DO decide to go the emulator route (and no, discussing emulators and roms is NOT illegal, no one's discussed where to get roms and hence no copyright is being infringed by any involved party) these guys might help:

They also might be able to make you a custom controller with both native console AND USB plugs on the end.

Putting consoles in a PC case is much more challenging and fun than playing with software emulators...
 
Also, emulators are reversed engineered forms of the actual systems and are certainly illegal ;)

not usually. consoles and handhelds use mostly off-the shelf ASICs. documentation for these chips is out there in the free knowledge of the internet, and emulator cores can be written given these docs. no one died to protect the secret of a MIPS processor's undocumented opcodes or anything. this is all very legal stuff. if you think that emulators themselves are illegal, nintendo got to you somehow.
 
Didnt nintendo make all emulators for gameboys illegal?

Anyways sticking consoles in the PC... I say get a whole bunch of controller extension cables :)
 
nintendo said they were. nintendo was never able to get the judicial system to agree with their definition.
