MSI's overclocked 7970

Huh? Are you just pointing out MSI's OC'ed card, or just looking for comments about it? Did you buy it or something?
 
haha with a blower cooler like that and a high stock OC, that thing will be LOUD and HOT. the gigabyte one is a better card for sure. and yeah im sure they both use the same reference PCB so any difference in OC capability would be due to binning better cihps.

Joking of course. The thing appears to have a slightly modified version of the reference blower cooler and an overclocking purposely pegged to be just higher than the competition, but one that is still sublimely easy for nearly any 7970 to reach. At least the XFX black with reference cooler was $572 instead of $599/$609 (I think the price has bobbled a couple times for the MSI card) so it was a worthwhile experiment to compare it to a fully generic 7970 that sells for $549 to $559.
 
plugging MSI into forum search did not pull it up on the first two pages of results for AMD flavor. guess I should have checked general... so kill the thread please!
