Assuming same price, which would be the better card to go with?

This MSI stock clocked, 1GB, custom cooler 4870 (R4870-MD1G) /w free Stlaker game (bleh)

Or this XFX stock clocked, 1GB, reference cooler 4870 (HD-487A-ZHFC)?

Both would be new, retail cards.

I really like the lifetime warranty on the XFX card, but I also would like to have the custom cooler on the MSI.

Without getting into semantics, the MSI would run me 137.99 whereas the XFX would run me 135.09, so essentially the same price.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I only have like 18 hours left to decide...

EDIT2: The MSI card also has a $20 MIR, but that's hit or miss, though it'd make the card $117.99 ultimately. More worried about the up front cost.

Xfx all the way, lifetime warranty even/when you sell transfers to 2nd owner.

The relevance of the lifetime warranty when you're paying 120-150 for a card that's less than 6 months away from being at it's end of life is kind of pointless.

If it's 299 like it was at it's release, yeah be concerned about the warranty.

not everyone upgrades every cycle.

I have the MSI and have never had any problems whats so ever.

Card runs cool and quiet.

i have never had an xfx card, but i have had a few msi, and have 2x msi 4890 now. they work fine. but since i stopped overclocking my vid cards a few years ago, and stopped doing things like bios flashing, volt modding and putting 3rd party cooling on, i have never had to use a warranty on one. so if you are going to fuck around with it, get the xfx, they might be a little quicker with an rma. might be.

meh to the warranty stuff, in a year a better card will be that price or less.

that is a snazzy cooler, and I have been using msi vidcards exclusively for a couple years(I LOVES msi boards but stopped using them and switched to gigabyte for am3). Nice cards, good components.

I can;t speak on the xfx, they do seem to have a strong following though. The cooler on that one is going to be loud, people bitch about the reference cooler being too loud all the time.

+1 for XFX they are 1 of the top 3 video cards makers i belive the 3 top are BFG Tech/Evga/XFX because of the lifetime warranty's plus xfx has the double warranty so you could resale it for a good price. because of the lifetime warranty.

I have the 4890 from both msi and xfx crossfired. I gotta say that the msi runs quieter and cooler but the xfx has the better warranty.Your choice on it ;)

but i belive you can change the hsf on the xfx with out voiding your warranty and you can o/c and still be covered which i belive msi wont cover

yea this noise thing is taken a bit too seriously. only time mine make any noise is when i am gaming, and then you could be testing nukes outside my house and i wouldnt notice.

I've owned several MSI cards over the years and have never had a problem with one. They are actually one of my first choices when buying a card. That being said, XFX still may be a better choice just because of the warranty.
