I just got a MSI 970 I am thinking of water cooling the card(s) If I do this will I lose a warrenty from MSI. I have a pair of 570's from MSI already water cooled I bought the cards cheap with out a warrenty 2 yeard ago.

Yes it will void their warranty, unless you are careful and willing to reinstall the stock HSF before you RMA any card. Even if you want to take the gamble, from what I have read it is pointless to waste the money on WC'ing 970s, as they run out of power before they reach a thermal wall...Unless you are willing to flash a modded Vbios that is..

I don't understand the point of watercooling a 970, period. Why would you not just use the extra money you're dumping into a WC setup to get a 980 or 980 Ti?? Watercooling will NEVER get you the same results as what a better card on air can. If you claim better OC - well, you can OC the next card up the line, too.

Unless you're like me with a setup already. Having 2, 360 rads for just the CPU is a bit much so may as well tie the card into the system even if it really doesn't need it. At least it'll keep the noise down.

To add to this the 970 really doesnt scale well after 1500/8000 anyway. The difference from 1500 to 1600mhz is like 2 fps.

1500 core is the sweet spot.

I pulled one rad and stare at my now useless (and expensive) custom 780 full block (and Z77 mb blocks).

A bit silly having a triple rad cooling my CPU but too lazy to pull it from the front of the case means I feel your pain.

Also as you can see in my sig I've got 2 MSI GTX 970 watercooled, and I will echo with what the other posters have said. WC a 970 is somewhat a waste from what you can achieve temp and mhz wise. The air cooler does a fantastic job even in SLI. BUT if you really want to WC, like I did, go ahead. In my case even if the money I spent on WC them where to go to 980 SLI I would have wanted to WC those and so on. It's a never ending circle...
