MS Tops Web Traffic In December

With almost 510 million unique visitors, Microsoft drew the largest number of web visitors in December. Oddly enough, the company is still unable match their competitors ability to monetize the massive amount of web site traffic.

Close to 509 million unique visitors, ages 15 and up, went to Microsoft Web sites in December, comScore Networks Inc. said Wednesday. Google Inc. came in second with a little over 494 million, while Yahoo Inc. landed in third place with almost 477 million unique visitors.

I think msn.com has slightly inflated numbers due to it being the IE default homepage. You can't even go get firefox or Opera without hitting it!

Is this number from straight up visitors that typed in microsoft.com, or does it include all internet traffic to the site, like windows update? Considering that almost every copy of windows will check with windowsupdate.microsoft.com at some point in its installed lifetime, every copy of windows leads to another 'unique hit' to microsoft.com.
