Move disk across controllers

I have WinXP installed on a particular disk which is currently connected to a RAID controller (non-Raid setup though). I want to move this disk to the onboard IDE controller on my NF7-S mobo so I can use the Raid controller for a Raid 1 setup.

Can I do this without a format and OS load?
 
no, i'm just using the raid SATA headers as extra HD connections

I have 2 optical drives on one CH for regular IDE, 2 backup HDs on the other regular IDE and then 2 HDs on the SATA raid controller. One of the SATA drives is the system disk. I want to move this drive (as well as the other one that's on this controller) to the regular IDE on-board and then move the backups HDs to a Raid 1 config on the SATA Raid controller.

So can it be done? I tried moving the system disk to the regular IDE without any other HDs attached in the system and it would not boot into WinXP. Any way I can get this to work without a reformat?
