mouse cords

I was going to buy one of those Logitech MX700 cordless optical mice but then i thought WTF why not get the corded MX500 and save a few bucks?? reasons for MX500 over MX700:

1) No stupid base that you have to set the mouse on after use (uses a battery, although a good one, i don't need to have to worry about stuff like that.)

2) A cordless mouse is much more easily stolen at a LAN party.

3) WHO THE HELL HAS EVER RUN OUT OF CORD SLACK, CLEAN YOUR DESK!! LOL my mouse can fall off the front of my desk it has so much cord length. I have never experienced tugging.

4)cheaper of course.

two stupid small tidbits which i probably shouldn't mention but will (correct me if these are inaccurate):

5) Faster response time with corded MX500

6) No interference with the many cordless telephones in my house. Wunder which frequency it uses...

Well there, maybe if someone can convince me otherwise and i can get my job back at McDonalds i will get the MX700, but i dunno...

if one does not have the need for the features that wireless has, mainly no cords, then there is no need to convince the person to use it.

i got my first wireless kb/mouse a couple years ago because i had one of those corner desks. it had a shelf for a computer tower on the left underneath the desk and in the middle, in the corner, was where the manufacturer expected you to put your monitor. that's not where i put it, i in fact put it on a file cabinet to the right of the desk. that made my cords not long enough and the reason i bought the wireless

now, i may not need the wireless since the computer is close enough to the kb/mouse (different desk), but on occasion, having no cords is good. mainly, someitmes i watch video from my computer on my tv. i can bring the mouse closer to the tv so i don't have to go back to my computer to pause. also, sometimes i need to move the kb out of the way so i can do work on the desk. i can easily put it out of the way since there's no cord. also, some people may not like the cord on the mouse since it can interfere. if peoples desks are nice and clean (but whose usually is) there wouldn't be an issue.

all in all, if money is a concern, wireless may not be for you. of course then maybe not a more expensive wired kb/mouse. in any case, it's simply whatever you think will work best in your situation.

If you have the money get the wireless. The mx700 is my first wireless mouse and now I can't dream of going back to a wire. There is much more free motion with the wireless and really you can't tell the difference between an wire and wireless mouse when you are using photoshop or gaming. If you do get the mx700 you won't regret it.

Under normal use (5 hours/day) I get about 5 days worth of battery life. When using my 2200mAh batteries I can nearly get 2 weeks of use.

Why the hell would they want to steal it? Its useless unless they get the receiver too.....

3) WHO THE HELL HAS EVER RUN OUT OF CORD SLACK, CLEAN YOUR DESK!! LOL my mouse can fall off the front of my desk it has so much cord length. I have never experienced tugging.

I always had a problem with the cord on mice getting caught in my keyboard tray rails.... bugged the hell out of me.

I agree with you there. Though they can be had on eBay typically much cheaper than retail.

5) Faster response time with corded MX500

The MX700 updates position around 125 times per second. This is the max speed at which USB polls for updates from input devices. It will be no different than any corded USB mouse.

6) No interference with the many cordless telephones in my house. Wunder which frequency it uses...

The mouse operates around 27mhz. The only thing that could possibly affect it would be RC toys or a CB transmiting on channels 5 or 17. (the mouse can be switched between 2 frequencies) Cordless phones do not use this band.....

I just got an MX500 because it was cheaper and the cord doesn't bother me really.

I use the MX700 just to avoid mouse cords. They get caught everywhere... and being able to control the comp from a ways away as someone else sits there is really nice.

i use a corded mouse because of no batteries, and the cord has never got caught anywhere, so that isn't an issue.

unless in your settup the cord gets snagged, or isn't long enough, there really is no reason to pay more for a wireless mouse. wasting money and adding the inconvienence of batteries.

My Reasons for liking the MX500 more:

-Cheaper
-Faster
-Lighter
-I don't care if it has a cord, just give it slack and tape it under neath the desk, it feels like it's cordless.

That's about it. I'm not too fond of having to put it in the dock, although the dock looks decent. The biggest reason is the weight. I used a cordless mouse before I had this one and I didn't like it that heavy.

Never thought of the weight issue but it seems obvious that with a battery in it that it would weigh more. Ill go with the MX500. :)

I like my MX900 ALOT better then any corded mouse i've ever had and the keyboard (Dinovo) complements it perfectly IMO. Good buy, although it was a little bit expensive.

As if this topic hasnet been beaten down atleast 20 times

In any case, If you like the cords, good get the mx500
If you like cordless, good, get the mx700
If you have bluetooth, good get the mx900

Simple as that

In any case, i got the mx700

I think you are forgetting something - the MX500 is WEIGHTED. Logitech likes heavy mice - they have nice little weights in the mouse (lead, I think, possibly iron). The MX700 is not that heavy - if you are having problems with the weight of the mouse, then you really shouldn't be gaming as much as you do - hit the GYM! My 7 yr old sister does not have a problem moving this mouse around so I doubt that you will. The MX700 is great, and so is the MX500, but once you go wireless, you won't go back. Well you might, but I doubt it - at least I wouldn't:p .

When we're talking about response time, we're not talking about the sampling rate of the optical component or the sampling rate by the interface. What he's referring to is the problem old cordless mice faced: wireless latency. Most users say the MX700 does not have noticable lag, but a few still do. This isn't an issue with corded mice.
