Mounting Multiple Hard Drives

Sorry, the search function is down and I havn't been able to find a post that addresses my admittedly n00bish question.

How do I mount more than two hard drives (PATA) on a system? I am building a little server box and I have four hard drives lying around to plug into it.

Should I just get an IDE controller card?
 
probably if you have optical drives you need to employ as well
