Just for fun here are a couple of case layout mockups with proper monolith proportions.

One with a base dimension of 46mm(3.5litre) and the other 70mm(12.4litre).

Hmmm, either of those would be cool to see made. Seems like a nice brushed aluminum and wood type construction would be appropriate, very hi fi looking.

Reminds me of Gtek's creations, especially his Tenuis models.
It has even got one side in black.

one thing to point out. I don't know what heatsink you're going to use, but with the NH-L9i, the shortest "thickness" dimension you are going to get is 52mm (mounting pegs under the mobo prevent you from using shorter mobo standoffs, not that you'd really want to go shorter than 6mm at any rate); this is including a 1.5mm case material thickness. Most I/O plates are also right around 48-50mm "tall".

if you went with the 52mm thickness, 208mm depth, and 468mm height, that would give you a ~5L case. That would give you enough room to put an x51 PSU and a 5.25" HDD on the side opposite from the GPU.

The smaller one is a little over 1U thick. There are plenty of cooling solutions that would fit. Probably would need to stay below 65W TDP. Not much of a performance limitation given a max GPU of 670/760. The PSU I chose is an imaginary 1U jobby that is only 150mm deep. I doubt such a thing exists but I haven't looked very earnestly. It would only need to be 350W at most.

If we build it the apes will come.
