I'm having an issue that I think is heat related but would like to make sure before I plop down a bunch of money on a new cpu-cooler(s).

Running ESXi5.1 on a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 with an AMD FX-8320, 32gb RAM. NO overclocking. Last night I was copying some 100+gb to datastores for a project and the motherboard buzzer started going off. Single, continuous buzz. Before the copy could complete, the system just shutdown. Booting up into the bios and looking at the cpu temp from the bios, showed it at 60C, alarm threshold is 70C. I let it sit for a bit, then powered it back up. CPU still showed 60C at idle. Further attempts to copy files led to the buzzing but since I was only copying 4gb at a time (with a 5min "cooling off" period), the system didn't shut down.

I've tried to load HWmonitor onto a windows VM but it does not report the CPU temps. Is there anyway or anything to load onto ESXi to be able to look at core and/or CPU temps?

Or should I hack the case, adding some more fans? OR should I just get a CoolerMaster H100i or similar and be done with it?
