Ok so here goes. I am the type of person that does research upon research upon research before buying something. I haven't been shopping for a monitor in a long time because I have been using my 40 inch HD LCD tv as my monitor but moved recently and am back to a desk setup so I am in the market for some monitors.

I am looking for 2 monitors. Here's the catch.

#1. I am an aspiring professional photographer and do alot of photo editing so color accuracy and representation is very important to me.

#2. I am a hardcore gamer so having fast response time is key. I doesn't sit well with me when my games become blurry.

#3. I plan on hooking up my xbox to this so HDMI input is a must.

#4. I am looking for 2 monitors at 24 inches. Now since I am a gamer and photographer I could get a monitor that fits each need OR get a monitor that covers both areas with ease.

#5. Price isn't too much of a concern but I do have a limit of how much I am willing to spend but it's more of value/quality price that can fluctuate. I guess maybe having a low and high end choice might help.

Please help!

Sincerely,

Jason aka Gouda :D

How important? what colour space are you using? If you are printing, will you be profiling your printer?

Best color accuracy = MVA or PVA
Best response times = TN
Good color accuracy and response times = latest generation of IPS

Overall best monitors = CRT

Pick your trade-offs or get a CRT.

Define "hardcore gamer" please..

Like you physically tackle your video games? You stay up 3 days playing a game? You're a member of sponsored team?? Enlighten me..

I just can not imagine doing either of these on a LCD tv. Don't know what to recommend though, but in the 24" range the u2410 might be enough or might not.

I work on my photos in adobe lightroom which I have using ProPhoto RGP. I export to photoshop and keep the embedded color profile instead of using the working color space in adobe which is sRGB IEC61966-2.1.

I used to have a 21 inch NEC that was awesome except that it weighed 88 pounds! Thanks for the tip about the different panels. I knew about the TN panels but were unaware of the other two until recently but didn't know the specifics on them.

Well let's see, started playing games when Calicovision game out, then atari, then nintedo and sega genesis. Ive played all console systems. In 93-94 I built my schools network and had doom and duke nukem 3d installed and would have after school 8 man deathmatches. When not at school I was doing modem to mode duke nukem and doom and the original warcraft.

I am a first person shooter junky. I was heavily into quake 2 in a clan. Was in a clan for Wolf3d, UT2004, the battlefields. I've played EQ, WOW, Anarchy Online, Asheron's Call, Eve Online, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Diablo 2, counterstrike, team fortress 2. This is only a handful of the games I have played. Hexen, Hexen 2, Heretic, Blood, Redneck rampage, Rise of the Triad(RoTT).

I usually game from the time I get home from work until I go to sleep. This is usually around 7 to 8 hours of gaming....usually every night...weekends I usually split the days. one day gaming(sunday), saturday for partying and going out...

So I think this constitutes me as pretty hardcore.

For your photography purposes I would recommend something like the LCD2690WUXi2 or the PA241W. These monitors are designed for commercial photography and soft proofing.

You might be directed to something like the Dell U2410 by others. Dell did not appear to have any purpose in mind for this monitors when they designed it, except to possibly get Foxconn to slap a plastic shell around the panel from LG. It might do what you need, I don't know.

You can peruse good reviews at tftcentral.co.uk and the english page of prad.de.

Haha yeah, I'd say so. Kudos as many of the games you named are classics to me as I grew up playing them (especially those old FPS titles).

I have little experience with photography or graphics design but NEC does seem to be well-liked for those purposes. I'd definitely check out the 2490wuxi/2490wuxi2 or the PA series that Whoisthisreally mentioned.
