I have an old (5-8 years) Mag Innovision monitor that I would like to keep around for several more. It is all I need in a monitor (1280x1024 @ 32-bit @ 60Hz), but has some issues. About a year ago, it started having small flickering problems, which were solved with a nice little love tap. Then they grew worse, to the point that you had unplug it, then plug it back in to fix the problem. Just today, I came home, and turned the monitor on and heard what sounded like a small pop or something (a buzz maybe?). The monitor turns on okay, but is now having fuzzy spasms. A few love taps later, we are in business. So I was already on HardForum posting this, when, suddenly, BZzzZzzrZzrzrzrzZRrrt. The monitor goes effin PSYCHO, and gets very distorted. In response to BZzzZzzrZzrzrzrzZRrrt, I quickly turn the monitor off and unplug it (more in fear for my life and attached components than anything else). Since the problem has been fixable by hitting the thing, I think that there may be something loose inside, or there is a lot of dust inside that is causing malfunctions. Can anyone give me some pointers on how I should go about fixing this problem without killing myself with the stored electricity?
