Monitor not responding

Ok, I recently just built my first computer and I am having a bit of difficulty. My monitor is not responding to the video card. I have no idea why as I am almost positive I have everything hooked up right.

I have a spare motherboard that has integrated graphics, so I tried that one out to see if it works and I get the same problem. I know it isn't the monitor as I could plug the monitor directly into the spare motherboard and it works fine. The 7800gt powers on fine and the fan starts blowing when I turn the computer on, but no reaction from the monitor. One thing that may be an issue (not really sure) is that the monitor doesn't have a DVI plug, but I just plugged it into the adapter that came with the video card. Also, I get the 1 short beep that I am supposed to get on startup. But the monitor just stays blank.

Any ideas of what I could try?

If the card is dual dvi try plugging into the other dvi. Make sure you are connecting the dvi/vga adapter fully using the screw in thingies. Try reseating the video card. Don't know about 7800GT but if it requires 6 pin auxillary power make sure that is plugged in. Unplug and replug the 24 and 4 pin motherboard connectors and make sure their all the way in. Reseat ram.

Assuming of course the monitor is plugged in, turned on and brightness and contrast set to 100%.

you can test if it's the monitor simply by unplugging it from everything and turning it on. A screen test will come up.

the spare motherboard, are you using the same CPU/RAM? You need both of those for a post, including the vid card. So it could be any of those that is faulty.

I am using the same CPU and same RAM in both motherboards. Everything is exactly the same when I test them. Same result in both mobos though, monitor doesn't respond when plugged into the video card, but responds when using onboard video.

Here is another wrinkle. When I use the mobo with onboard video and load windows, I can't load the Nvidia drivers. It says that there is no compatible hardware found for those drivers. I don't know if that would happen because I am not plugged into it or if something else is screwed up. I do have the 6 pin connector connected to the video card coming from the PSU. This video card worked fine for me before. I pulled it from a working system. I suppose it may have died, but that just seems unlikely.

No one has any ideas? I am thinking of RMA'ing the card, but I would really hate to do that just to find out it isn't the card.
