I've been in the darkroom in the past. And am now getting up to speed with digital photography. I've posted questions about upgrading my computer. Recently I posted questions regarding the fw900.

When it comes down to strictly photography do CRTs trump most LCDs?

I've learned that the best CRTs are the true trinitron flat screen ones. I'm still having doubts about purchasing a refurb fw900 because I don't want to spend $400 on a monitor that could die in a couple of years. Are there any high end, new CRTs still available? Price is a definite factor. What would you guys recommend after the fw900? Thanks.

I am looking for the link, but i recently read an article (on [H]ard) about how it is impossible to buy a really good CRT these days b/c the good parts are no longer being produced. :(

I've just bought a NEC 20wmgx2,after using a 17in trinitron for 7 years.
I was totally convinced that it would not stand up to my Trinitron...but I bought it because of the great price & extra space ,which comes in handy when I'm working with photoshop.
.You might want to reconsider going into a LCD monitor.
If price is an issue,go to nm-select.com ,a division of NEC...they carry refurbs & new..both crt's & lcd at great prices.
When viewing my photographs from a recent trip to Thailand,I'm finding detail in my images that were not there on my trinitron monitor.
If you go with a lcd..get one with a s-ips panel.
hopefully some more experienced member will chime in and advise.
Hope this info helps,
Mike

Apple Cinema 23 HD Display, definitely aim at professional photographer and graphic designer. Price is a bit too steep though.

So would you guys advise against the purchase of an fw900 refurb w/ 6 month warranty?

As long as you still return it after seeing it in action (esp with your video card and plugged into your ac power).

Easy....An HP LP2065.

Its about 375$ from buy.com, has a small dot pitch (high resolution) and its S-IPS. There is a bit of a panel lotto going on now, but most are S-IPS.

Ture, Enzo and NEC's would likely kick its tail, but for the price point, its the one to get for what the OP wants.
