This has been happening for a while now (but wasn't for a few months). I've searched for this problem on google quite a bit and gave up after all I found was people telling to update drivers.
I just boot and hit the reset right away now and it works everytime. I just don't like having to do so.
Relevant information
ASUS GTX 285 (not OC'd, tried to plug the monitor in both the DVI outputs)
Flatron W2353V monitor, tested also with an old CRT and another LCD
Asus P6T motherboard (latest BIOS as of jan 21st)
Other info
Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit (don't think this is relevant, since the problem is pre OS load)
i7 920 (tried stock speeds and OC'd at 3.8ghz)
6gb DDR3
