Moniter recommendations

Hello all, I've been poking around the various forums here soaking up info as I look more into the hobby. As funds are finally secure for a proper rebuild, though thankfully I'm in no hurry to pull the full trigger, I have a few questions regarding what a recommended monitor might be from those who have forgotten more about them then I'll likely ever know. Specifically I want to replace the Acer x203w I'm currently typing this on but I am willing to show some patience if needed. As an additional disclosure I've yet to ever notice any sort of input lag, ghosting, or flicker even when playing a FPS with what I'm using now despite it being fairly low quality. With all that said here's the constraints I'm working under:

1. Primarily for non-pro gaming.
2. Solid image quality. This is one of the major criteria as I can deal with many tradeoffs but a poor quality image is not one I'd like to make.
3. Maximum screen size of 27" as nothing larger will physically fit upon my current desk. No bias against anything smaller either especially given the budget constraints.
4. Single screen setup only.
5. Intention of getting a higher end enthusiast card anyway, GTX 770 or equivalent and up, so its mostly independent of GPU selection.
6. Intention of a long service life. My current one is around 5-6 years old and while functional isn't cutting it for me anymore. Thus I'm willing to spend a bit more for something that easily will outlast the current rebuild and that I'll be staring at for years to come. Maybe not quite as long but still at least a few years.
7. Neutral on the concept of monitor overclocking. Also while I have yet to personally see a true 120Hz monitor in action nor have anything against the concept I'd be perfectly happy with a bog standard 60Hz refresh rate push comes to shove.
8. Maximum budget of ~$400 USD shipped though I would prefer spending less and depending on the specifics more can be allocated but it will proportionally push back the actual date of purchase. Fortunately as stated earlier I have the flexibility to wait until something worthwhile comes along to pull the trigger as my current display is still working perfectly fine.

As there is a few electronics stores in the area* any recommendations posted here I plan to go look at in person to let my eyes be the final judge.


*Sadly not a MicroCenter within normally reasonable driving distance.

There's nothing non Korean under $400 I would buy..... But you could get one of the ASUS 144hz panels that are Gsync modable/capable/built-in.....

I figured as much sadly considering what they are. While I don't care if it has quite the same service life I'd want to at least get a few years out of whatever I ended up with verses it burning out in six months with a shower of sparks. That said despite being made from factory seconds I haven't entirely ruled them out considering how easy it can be for otherwise perfectly fine panels to fail overly zealous QA testing procedures.

While slightly outside of the current price range on the high end I've noticed both the BenQ BL2710PT and Eizo Foris FG2421 have garnered good reviews so either seem to be solid choices. Not sure if they'd be worth the extra cost though much less how they'd stack up in terms of overall image quality compared to the current crop of Korean budget monitors.

That said despite being made from factory seconds I haven't entirely ruled them out considering how easy it can be for otherwise perfectly fine panels to fail overly zealous QA testing procedures.

If you think you're going to get a Korean panel without anything wrong with it, you're fucking delusional lol. 3 Tries to get a decent one for me, and its not perfect either, THEY ALL have bent panels, ALL of them. Not to mention each panel has its own unique defects.

If you really want to take a $100 gamble, knock yourself out. I lucked out with the other 2, and had shipping refunded, 1 had a damaged panel, the other was a shoddy POS tempered glass model instead of the original glossy... That panel couldn't do anything over 60hz lol.

Also one last thing, I know tons of people throw around the "120Hz" but honestly, think 96 more realistically with these, you really see why the monitors were rejected once you get to 120Hz, even with stupidly tight timings and a tweaked pixelclock.

Oh I have no illusion about getting a perfect panel made from factory seconds, sold from overseas via shady private third party channels, and with a build quality that often leaves something to be desired. That is why I commented about not having written them off entirely despite those very problems. Granted not being discounted entirely, mainly due to price, hardly means they are the first things I'd go for either.

Anyway considering they were the only recommendations I had gotten so far I was just curious how they compared to some of the other panels mentioned in the subforum.
