Hi,

I'm probably not the first one to ask .. sorry if so!

I'll build a new system soon, and i'm wondering if i could go with a modular psu or normal one? Some site like PC Power and Cooling say it's really not good and loose a lot of power(equivalent to 2feet of power in resistance) because of them, and some others(cannot remember the source) tested that and proved it wrong... So i'm a bit confused?

Also should i ask to have some plug that new component might require?(i know a new PCI-E is suppose to enter the market right? a bigger one...).

So what do you think about that?

p.s. also have some recommendation for PSU... i only want the best...the price is a minor problem...unless you're speaking about a 1K$ PSU

Go modular there really is not discernable difference. The supposed loss of power really IMO cannot be measured. You also need to remember at the time that PC Power & Cooling thing was written there was probably more truth than there is today!!
That article is out dated and worse case scenario total FUD!!

Difference between modular and non-modular, is small enough that you can say that it's not an issue.

New Pci-e connector, I'm sure you can get adaptors when they're out and being used.

What system are you going to be powering with this? Then we can tell you what's good.

Well i'm waiting to see the new DX10 from ati to choose between them or NVIDIA...
Probably will do a SLI/Crossfire with the top of the line card at the time(have to be able to play ALL games at 1920*1200, well all games for a while...).

E6600 (or better depending what's the price/value ratio when i'll buy it... but the E6600 is the "smallest" i'll get), dunno about the mobo since it depends on the GPU.
RAID with two 500gig or 750gig sata, with a 100gig sata for windows/programs/etc.
When there'll be reliable a soundblaster X-Fi
2 or 4gig of rams
tv tuner
and of course the classic dvd drives(one read, one read/write).
No water cooling, maybe some better fans or cooling system but that's pretty much it...
Am i forgetting something?

(btw a bit of topic, but how can i tell if this futur system will bottleneck?)

I wouldn't worry about it, get whatever you want.

you probably will want the sea-sonic 700w or Corsair 620w, both of which are modular.

thanks for the suggestion, but i want it for as long as possible, so thinking about something over 800w, it might be over kill, but i rater have a more powerfull psu working slowly, than a less powerfull one always working at full power...(no facts backing that, just what i prefer...)

I've got the Thermaltake 850, and I like it alot; quiet, modular and tons of cables (ready for quad sli setup), small and fit the TJ09 perfect. I paid I think about $230. I splurged on this, for the reasons you state, and on the TJ09; I could have easily bought a cheaper case and PSU, but wanted these.

i was hesitating between the TJ07 or the Lian Li PC-V2000BplusII... like better the looks of the TJ07 but the ventilation of the PC-V2000BplusII finally sold my mind to it hehe ;)

I'll look into that thermaltake, what about those website that offers "customs" psu like PC Power and Cooling, worth it or a waste?

Looks are important if you're spending the bucks; seems you're on the right track for the PSU and case.

yeah it's important for that price, but the lian li isnt ugly either... but it as crazy ventilation. With a same system, in another good case(cannot remember which one) the temp in the lian li was about 6-8 degrees less for all components... but now i see the CM Staker 830 looks weird but kinda cute at the same time(in black of course not silver..) but will all that vent :|... crazy!!
